In the temperate forest the temperatures range anywhere from -30°C to 30°C,  but the yearly average is 10°C  with hot, blistering, summers and cold, freezing, winters. The average precipitation is about 30 to 60 inches of rain per year. A few types of plants are broadleaf trees, which are oaks, maples, beeches, shrubs, perennial herbs, and mosses. Some animals you might find in the forest are: tawny owls, raccoons, opossum, salamander, black bear, bobwhite quail, northern copperhead, whitetail deer,  american burying beetle, northern cardinal, eastern cottontail rabbit, chipmunk, eastern tiger swallowtail, and the  european hedgehog. Where you might find one of these wonderful forests is in the Eastern United States, Canada, Europe , China, and Japan. Here are 3 National Parks in the part of the Temperate Deciduous Forest biome in North America that you could visit: the Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Chattahoochee Oconee National Forests, and the Shenandoah National Park.

A climatogram is when the elements of a climate, like the temperature and rainfall are plotted against each other graphically. This is useful because it helps establish a type of climate.

In the Temperate Deciduous Forest the summers and winters are very distinct. As you can see in the climatogram above the hotter the temperature is, the more rain there is and the cooler the temperature, the less rain. This is because in winter the temperature is so cold that rain freezes before touching ground and it snows. When the temperature rises and summer comes, the temperature is to hot for the rain to freeze so therefore we have more rain in the summer. Because of the up and downs of this climate it is important for the plants and animals to adapt in order to survive. For example the leaves on trees during Fall start to change and die, so that during Spring new leaves can come to life and live until next winter. This is the same for animals, like the black bear, who will start to eat more and store energy and find shelter to hibernate over Winter so that when spring comes they awake ready to venture around and prepare for next winter. This is a continuous cycle. These seasons, Spring, Summer, Fall, and Winter, all gradually change, each of them preparing for the next.
