The flow of carbon in my biome starts within the atmosphere and sun. As you can see the plants, or producers consume the carbon dioxide and make glucose. Which then the consumers, like the whitetail deer, eat and use the glucose in respiration. When this happens carbon dioxide is released into the atmosphere and continues the cycle.

Without the carbon cycle in my biome plants would not be able to make glucose and therefore animals could not use the glucose in respiration to release carbon dioxide. Without one there wouldn't be the other. Carbon Dioxide is important to my biome because it keep the plants alive that keep us alive.

When energy flows through an ecosystem it is transfered from the sun to the producer to a consumer to a consumer and keeps going until no energy is left. Energy only goes one way. And with each transfer of energy the amount of energy decreases. This is different from the way matter flows through an ecosystem. Matter, like carbon, flows with equal amounts and is continuous. Carbon starts in the air, is then absorbed by plants that make glucose, and then animals consume the plants and glucose and go through respiration that then gives off carbon, making a cycle. Carbon does not just go one way.
